Dear Friends,

There are some birthdays that invite us to look back. Andy’s 95th invites us to look ahead.

When we began talking about this celebration, Andy smiled and said the theme should be “We Have Only Just Begun.” That phrase captures the spirit of his life. After nearly a century of service, he still wakes up thinking about the work ahead, the people who need opportunity, and the ideas that can make life better for the next generation.

I have had the blessing of watching Andy serve as a pastor, civil rights leader, congressman, mayor, diplomat, mentor, and humanitarian. Yet he has never been interested in preserving a legacy simply for its own sake. His question is always, “What can we do next?”

The Foundation turns Andy’s lifelong commitment to human dignity into practical work that addresses urgent needs and builds lasting opportunity. Its projects are designed to prove what is possible, develop solutions that can grow, and bring together the public, private, philanthropic, and community partners needed to sustain them.

• Food Security and Sustainability: Forever Young Aquaponics advances closed-loop farming that can conserve water, produce more food on less land, create jobs, and serve communities where fresh food is difficult to access. The Foundation’s work also includes youth aquaponics education and the development of Lemna, a nutrient-rich plant protein with the potential to help address malnutrition.


• Education and Opportunity: The Andrew Young HBCU Scholarship Program provides critical gap funding for first-year students so that housing, meals, transportation, and supplies do not become barriers to completing their education. Through Andrew Young Presents, the Foundation also preserves and shares 37 Emmy-winning documentaries as educational resources for future generations.


• Health and Humanitarian Action: From delivering selenium during the Ebola crisis in Liberia to helping provide oxygen concentrators during India’s COVID-19 emergency, the Foundation responds through trusted global relationships and practical, life-saving support.


• Economic Development and Global Innovation: Initiatives focused on the Mississippi River corridor and next-generation maritime infrastructure bring together international expertise, sustainable design, and economic opportunity to help communities prepare for the future.
